Erin Lonergan
Erin was born and raised in Adirondack State Park in Upstate New York. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Castleton University in Vermont, with an intensive study in Painting at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare Ireland, where her work began to take an intimate role in her life. A Fine Arts education gave Erin the foundation necessary for conceptual exploration into her own artwork, but gave her the curiosity to delve into the intimate corners of self and explore relationships within the spaces that surround her - the spaces where uncomfortable peace can be found.
This study of hidden worlds led Erin to work as a muralist and decorative painter for ten years. Her deep understanding of the effect of interior and exterior environments on our everyday lives allowed her to create spaces and tell stories. Her work has been published in numerous publications and garnered national press coverage in the world’s top interior design magazines. Erin has shown her work for the past 30 years in numerous group and solo shows, both internationally and throughout the Adirondack and New York City areas
Artist Statement:
In my artistic exploration, I am drawn to the duality of our surroundings: the serene beauty of nature landscapes in contrast with the vibrant energy of cityscapes. Through the medium of oil painting, I endeavor to capture the essence of both, celebrating the unique character and emotional resonance of each.
In my nature landscapes, I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and reverence for the natural world. From sweeping vistas to intimate scenes, I am fascinated by the ever-changing play of light, color, and atmosphere. I strive to convey not only the physical beauty of the landscape but also the intangible qualities that stir the soul. My aim is to transport the viewer to these tranquil realms, inviting them to pause, breathe, and connect with the profound beauty and inherent harmony of nature.
Conversely, in my cityscapes, I explore the dynamic interplay of human interference and urban architecture. I am captivated by the bustling energy, the rhythmic pulse of life, and the contrast of old and new. Through bold compositions and expressive use of color and patterns, I strive to capture the essence of urban life – the towering skyscrapers, and the kaleidoscope of lights and shadows. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle, I also seek to convey moments of quiet introspection and beauty, inviting viewers to discover the poetry hidden within the urban landscape.
In both my nature landscapes and cityscapes, I am guided by a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our world. Through my art, I aim to celebrate the rich tapestry of life – from the tranquil serenity of nature to the vibrant energy of the city – and to inspire others to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, the sublime in the everyday. Ultimately, my hope is to foster a deeper connection with our surroundings, encouraging viewers to pause, reflect, and find moments of beauty and joy in the world around them.
