Adirondack Gold is young adult historical fiction, but, says reviewer John Rowen, "Strong writing and research make it highly recommended for readers of any age who are interested in the Adirondacks, 19th century New York history or rural life." Sunday Gazette, March 21, 2004. It works for kids from 9-99. Adirondack Gold II: A Summer of Strangers is an Adirondack coming-of-age story set in 1898, the tale of a young boy faced with difficult choices at a time when his family members--his usual support network--are unavailable to provide the guidance and help he needs. A story of aspirations, budding environmental awareness and love of family are woven together as intrigue builds in this novel. Suitable for age 12 through adult. Author Adrian Fogelin has described it, “…a portrait of a bygone era so rich in authentic detail that the reader can almost smell the cut hay, feel the icy water of the stream on bare feet…”. The moving accounts in Shared Stories from Daughters of Alzheimer's: Writing a Path to Peace comprise a "support group in print for families dealing with Alzheimer's disease.

Carol Gregson
Leaky Boots, Carol Gregson's chronicle about life in the Adirondacks is a welcome blend or irony and humor.  nearly six decades and seven children after arriving here from Seattle, Gregson is upbeat--often hilarious--about the special demands of mountain living.  Readers will find much to enjoy and recognize in these stories told with all the authenticity of a person who has been there and still is.

"Each chapter of The Adirondacks covers a different corner from Lake Placid and the High Peaks to Saranac Lake, Lake George, and teh Fulton Chain.  To appreciate the wonders of the Adirondacks through the lens of one of the area's most accomplished photographers is like exploring them for the first time."
Sandra Hutchinson
Jumping Off Cliffs is a selection of Sandra's popular weekly columns on family life written for The Chronicle.  She touches on a wide range of issues affecting families today, from juggling work and family, restoring to a minivan and surviving travel with kids, to Bill Clinton, Cal Ripken and Martha Stewart. Often humorous, her columns tap into the challenges and ironies of 21st century family life.

Lake George has everything -- scenic beauty, a fascinating history and great topics for a mystery series.  In Best Laid Plans, my 2006 Lake George Mystery, murder again disturbs the peace of Emerald Point and Mayor Loren Graham risks her life to uncover the killer.  In Beneath the Surface (2005) the town observes the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War, and Georgia O'Keeffe's giant flower paintings play a key role in An Affinity for Murder, nominated as a 2002 Malice Domestic Best First Mystery.  Anne's fourth mystery is Secrets Dark and Deep.

"Tour Thurman: A Self-Guided Jaunt to Homes and History" narrates, through the voice of area performer Brian Chevalier, the history of eighteen historic sites in Thurman, a prototypical Adirondack town, and each narration is couched in folk tunes donated by musicians from around the region: Christopher Shaw, Brian Chevalier, Dan Berggren, Arlin Greene, John Kirk & Friends and Susan Trump. Whether used as armchair tour enjoyment of regional history, or as a guide for an actual tour, “Tour Thurman” is an entertaining visit to late 1800s and early 1900s in the Adirondacks.

Amity Farm Batik by Carol Law Conklin
My batik are inspired by fantasy, mythological and primordial themes as well as nature, the seasons and images harvested from 28 years on our Jersey cow dairy farm with the Adirondack mountains looming in the distance. These hand crafted, original design batik are produced by painting paraffin and beeswax onto cloth. The waxes act as a resist to the many dye baths the cloth goes through before the wax is ironed out. Accessories are produced using soy wax on silk and with direct fabric painting to provide unique gifts.

Crystal Eggleston
Raw metals such as nickel, copper, and brass make up the majority of my jewelry portfolio. I enjoy the natural qualities of these materials and the way in which they react to the heat of a torch. Most of my metal pieces incorporate a semi-precious stone of some kind. I feel that the combination of the natural metals and semi-precious stones give an earthy feel and make each piece truly unique. The cuff pictured is made from copper with an onyx stone. The red patina you see in the copper is natural and is created from the heat of the torch.

Paper Crane Earrings are made from origami papers with patterns of traditional kimonos.  Light and bright, they attract attention without the weight of most earrings.  In Japanese culture, paper cranes can be used to make wishes. Today, paper cranes sometimes stand for a wish for peace, making a gift of paper cranes a gift of hope and peace.

I've been creating unique lampworked glass jewelry from my Hudson Valley studio since 2000.  Lampwork is a process developed centuries ago in Italy for forming molten glass into beads and sculptural shapes.  I make each piece one at a time, using colorful rods of glass melted in a torch flame, shaped, decorated and then fired in a kiln to strengthen the glass.  What appears very delicate is in fact quite durable.  I am working on new ideas for functional glass art.  My earrings and other jewelry feature my glass work and sterling silver.

All the photos in the 2009 calendar were taken in 2008 at the annual Sombrero Ranch round up and horse drive. Sombrero Ranch owns close to 2000 horses that are leased each summer for summer camps, dude ranches and hunting concerns. The horses winter on a vast range in Northwest Colorado. Every spring they are rounded up and driven by cowboys over 50 miles to their home ranch to be prepared for the upcoming season. The drive takes place over two days. Guest riders come from all over the country to participate as well as many local cowboys who help round up and drive the herd. It is a sight to see and something the whole community turns out to watch. Also available in the Shop are tiles featuring various photographs of horses.

Tom Ryan Watercolors
I particularly enjoy the quiet serenity of the Adirondacks and try to capture that emotional feeling in my watercolors.  I paint almost exclusively using the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, typically using two of each.  I start many of my paintings by soaking the watercolor paper and utilizing a wet-in-wet technique that results in soft edges that I particularly enjoy.  Once the paper dries, I add dark hard edge strokes for interest and to emphasize the center of interest in the painting. The result is a painting that is a blend of soft and hard edges.  I painted the watercolor "Fall Time" on location in October 2008. The background is a mixture of mostly soft and a few hard edges.  The "whites" are the white watercolor paper with no paint applied.
