Tribute to The Doors and more by Feast of Friends

Date/Time: 5/25/2018 (08:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

The long awaited return of Feast of Friends (The Doors Tribute & More) will take place on Friday, May 25th @ 8:00 pm at the Strand Theater. Doors open at 7:30pm.
From Hudson Valley, New York, Feast of Friends is not your typical “tribute” to Jim Morrison and The Doors. No costumes or wigs in this band, it’s truly about the music. Feast of Friends captures elements of the band’s studio sound and fuses that with the epic improvisational jams that shaped the band’s live performances.
FoF perform a variety of songs from The Doors historic catalog ranging from 1967 to 1971. You’ll hear all the greatest hits and psychedelic deep cuts, plus a unique twist as FoF also include their original music reminiscent of The Doors unmistakable sound into their set lists.
Step back in time on a mind bending journey to the here and now and experience the unparalleled “live action” that is Feast of Friends!
Feast of Friends is: Mark Davidoff (Guitar), Jude DeFalco (Drums), Andrew Goodsight (Bass), John Henriksen (Vocals), Brian Mangini (Keyboards).
For more information about Feast of Friends visit their website and “Like” them on Facebook.

Create Your Own Adventure Game

Date/Time: 7/9/2018 (10:30 am - 12:30 pm)

Create Your Own Adventure Game
10:30am to 12:30pm | July 9-26
For Students Entering Grades 7-10

Video games are the ultimate form of entertainment because they combine aspects of every other art form. But pretty graphics, realistic acting, and engaging music don’t make a game great — an interactive story does! These days, the only thing that separates games from movies is that they are interactive and the player has choices. We don’t have the time, budget, or resources to make the next Call of Duty this summer, but with a little bit of creativity, you can make something even better. Make your very own text-based adventure game like the ones that were popular when the computer was first invented, which are starting to make a comeback on tablets and smartphones. These games were based on the choose-your-own-adventure books from the late 1980s, in which the reader chose what the narrator should do next by flipping to a certain page. But a paper book can only give you so many options, and what you create in this class is only limited by your imagination. Students who sign up for this class will not only learn how to write an interesting story but also how to bring it to life on a computer with interactive choices.

Illustration Creation

Have you ever considered being a book illustrator? This course will look at works by a variety of illustrators from popular children’s picture books. You will examine each of these illustrators and look at how they created their art, as well as how the art enhanced the books. Then, you will have the opportunity to create your own images in the style of each of these illustrators. To do this, you will choose from a variety of poems and literary passages and create some fun, lively and colorful illustrations influenced by the works of such great artists as Eric Carle, Chris Van Allsburg, Mo Willems, Patricia Polacco and many others.
