This hands-on workshop led by Ken Mudge, a retired associate professor emeritus from the Department of Horticulture at Cornell University will introduce you to the cultivation of shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, and wine cap stropharia mushrooms. The emphasis will be on shiitake which are grown on fresh cut logs.

Opening Reception for Upcoming “Dimensions of Space” Exhibit, featuring Jenny Hutchinson

Date/Time: 4/20/2018 (05:00 pm - 08:00 pm)

Jenny Hutchinson has been chosen for a solo exhibition entitled “Dimensions of Space” at the Historic Salem Courthouse Community Center in Salem, NY. The exhibit will be on display in the center’s Great Hall from April 15th – May 24th. The public is invited to a free opening reception with the artist on Friday, April 20th from 5 – 8 p.m.

On her work, Hutchinson states: “This series explores how variations in line, color, and shape inform our perception of a two dimensional artwork. The process in inspired by the very act of drawing and the challenge of translating a three dimensional object from life onto a flat, two dimensional surface. . . A jig-saw puzzle effect is revealed with the added inclusion of cut-outs and tiered layering of the paper or wood. This arrangement presents a disruption in the typical sequence of perceived space causing some shapes to appear both in the foreground or background. . . It is a process where mistakes and improvisations of the original image from life evolve into new expressive forms.”

This show is the second of six installments in the 2018 Great Hall Art Exhibit series presented by the Historic Salem Courthouse Community Center. This year’s art series is focused on connecting to the community by expanding the genres of art represented in the exhibits. The opening receptions feature local food products and are free and open to the public. The Courthouse is dedicated to providing a venue for artistic endeavors, for craft making, and for unique educational experiences for the immediate and extended community. They are located at 58 East Broadway, Salem, NY 12865 and are open Monday-Friday, 8AM to 5PM.

The McKrells

Date/Time: 5/9/2018 (07:00 pm - 09:00 pm)

May 9th, Wednesday 7 pm, Little Theater on the Farm presents The McKrells.Through the late ’90s and into the 2000s, The McKrells brought their brand of Celtic-influenced “folkgrass” to venues throughout the U.S and Ireland. Their formula of red-hot picking, stunning vocals and the songs of Kevin McKrell took the group to festival, coffeehouse and club stages including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Egg, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival, The Towne Crier and others. With The New McKrells, Kevin has once again put together an ensemble of wonderfully talented pickers:

John Kribs (guitar, vocals). On mandolin, Orion Kribs. Bassist Arlin Greene, whose father is the legendary Smokey Greene, toured with The McKrells back in the early days.
On fiddle is Doug Moody. Doug has been with Kevin since 2006; his alt-country fiddle style perfectly suits Kevin’s songs and his background vocals are a signature of McKrell tunes. Check out the McKrells here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1082118125250557/
