October Artist of the Month
Each month LARAC highlights the work of an Artist from the Adirondack Region.
Caroline Hooke | ||||
Caroline has always liked the colors and feel of Arizona and the desert, which is reflected in her work. Her Black Foot ancestry has also had a major impact on her artistry and work. When creating her art, it is the beauty of the natural objects she uses that inspires the finished piece; she says that her sculptures lead her to their final form; if she fights it, the work never seems to fall into place. Many of her creations have a mystic quality that speaks to your spiritual being. Her layering of natural materials and her choice of colors create unique and delightful sculptures, some of them very petite in nature. On display at ARTS 220, you will see the delightful variety in her artdoll sculptures, collages, wall hangings, and more. Artist's statement: "I have used stories, myths, masks, and layers of textures and materials to express inner thoughts, feelings, memories; reconnecting with our ancient past can, perhaps, help us understand ourselves, and others, and our natural world around us."
