Where is one of the best places to meet a spouse,
form friendships, and get to know your neighbors? Bill Woodward says,
“Glens Falls Community Theatre is the place to be, plus it’s fun and
creative.” Organized in 1935 by Paul Bergan and Edgar “Ned” Pit, it is
one of the oldest theater organizations in this region. It has
produced shows every year except a few during World War II. The name
was changed around 1990, and often you still hear Glens Falls natives
refer to it as the “Operetta Club”.
Currently they present three productions a year: a
musical in the fall, a play in the spring, and a dinner theater, often
featuring a murder mystery. Active members of the theater group number
125-150, and GFCT always welcomes newcomers to the group. In addition
to the on-stage presence of the actors, GFCT offers creative
opportunities for directing, sound, lighting, set design,
choreography, costuming, makeup, and more—all of those backstage
duties that create the magic of live theater. Community Theater has
also produced works by their members such as Bill Woodward and Bob
Myers. In March, Bob Myers’ Affairs of State is being presented as
dinner theater at the Queensbury Hotel, and in May, they will be
presenting I Hate Hamlet.
GFCT’s box office is in the Queensbury Hotel lobby
where tickets are available about 1-2 weeks before each production. |
