North Country Arts Center was established in 1971 for the purpose
of encouraging artistic endeavors and providing suitable locations
for emerging as well as established artists to exhibit their work.
One of the organization's most important programs is the ON MY OWN
TIME arts competition which serves as an incubator for local
artists. The competition is held annually with the support of
local businesses. It is a very special kind of art show--one
that nourishes artists who might otherwise go unnoticed in the
community while at the same time giving management the opportunity
to recognize employees' ability to be creative. Members,
employees, and retirees (as well as their spouses) of the
sponsoring organizations are eligible to compete in one or more of
the categories of this competition.
For 2007, ten
companies participated in the OMOT competition: Glens
Falls Senior Center, Arrow Financial Corporation, Glens Falls YMCA,
Finch Pruyn, Andritz, Sperry Advertising, Queensbury Senior Center,
The Glen at Highland Meadows, The Fort Miller Group and Glens Falls
Hospital.
The 2007 OMOT program continues with the presentation of the
Premiere Class Exhibit which features work by local artists who
have won First Place in several previous years' competitions; this
exhibit will be on display at NCAC’s City Hall Gallery from April 7
to May 5 during regular Gallery Hours M-F 9 am-4:30 pm. The
Area Wide Competition featuring this year's First Prize Winners
from all 10 companies will open at the City Hall Gallery on May 7,
2007 and will close on June 2; the reception and awards ceremony
will be held at the Gallery on May 25 from 5-6 pm. |
