March 2007 Organization of the Month

Each month LARAC highlights an Organization from the Adirondack Region
that is tied to the arts and culture of the region.

Glens Falls Civic Center

Glens Falls, NY

The Glens Falls Civic Center is a highly versatile multi-purpose complex that includes staging and seating for dance, theater, concerts, and various family shows as well as an arena for sporting events and trade shows.  it features 4,806 permanent seats and the ability to accommodate an audience of up to 7,200 people.

Since opening its doors in 1979, the Glens Falls Civic Center has been host to the entertainment world's top touring shows.  One of the Glens Falls civic Center's goals is to add to the artistic and cultural offerings in our region.  With the support of the Arts Initiative program, administered by LARAC, the Glens Falls Civic Center was able to bring an internationally recognized dance troupe to the region for a high level production of "Rhythm of the Dance" in 2006, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" in 2005, and "Singing in the Rain" in 2004 to name a few.

Looking ahead on March 8, "Clifford the Big Red Dog LIVE!" will take to the stage in a live musical adventure at 10:309 am and 6:30 pm.  On March 11, the third annual "Celtic Festival" takes place featuring the live music of Black 47 as well as Kevin McKrell and friends, vendors, food, and fun from 12 noon through 8 pm.  On march 30, the Glens Falls civic Center Foundation is holding its third annual "Laugh the Night Away" fundraiser.  This will feature the comedy of comedian Jeff Caldwell who is know to audiences nationwide as a clean, clever comedian, with one of the brightest standup acts around.  This event is in Heritage Hall, an on-site dining and banquet facility at the Glens Falls Civic Center.  The evening will consist of a social hour, sit-down dinner, comedy and a silent auction.  On April 5, Grammy-winning band Evanescence will perform with special guests Chevelle and Finger Eleven.
