The Georgi Museum and Park, Adams Lane, Shushan, NY,
presents events each summer. Bring your lawn chairs, a picnic
supper, friends and family. Free admission and parking.
ART AT THE GEORGI, offered in the spring in 2005 and
2006, supported by a LARAC grant, were very successful.
The Georgi, located on a lovely nine acres
along the Battenkill, celebrates its fifteenth season in 2006.
The museum, a summer home of the Georgis, houses an amazing
collection of pre-renaissance paintings, Asian tapestries, and
Chinese figurines, as well as the mineral collection of Henry
Georgi.
The park is a beautiful area with country
landscaping. Volunteers and members of the Georgi Board,
using funds donated and raised by community auctions and plant
sales, have rejuvenated the gardens. It is a popular leisure spot
for small and large group get-togethers, for picnics, walking, yard
games, concerts, weddings, and reunions. Besides the museum and the
park, a community building is also on the Georgi property and is
used as a local meeting room, voting area, and site for art lessons
and private indoor parties. Of special interest is the new
Battenkill Room with its stained glass windows (part of the
Georgi's stained glass collection) featuring a glass panel based on
a woodcut by Hans Weidtz. This sunlit room overlooking the
Battenkill River will be home to many new exhibits and displays
changing throughout the summer and fall and will include
information and educational materials about the Battenkill River.
The Battenkill Alliance and The Battenkill Conservancy are
assisting in these displays and events.
The Georgi Museum is located on Adams Lane in
Shushan, New York and is open from Memorial Day through Columbus
Day on weekends from 1-4:00 pm. Other times can be made available
by appointment. Call (518) 854-3773 for further information. |
