The WASHINGTON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CHORALE, formed in
2000 by Douglas Bischoff, was begun to provide high school students
who love to sing to challenge themselves as part of a distinguished
choral ensemble. In
addition to learning and rehearsing choral techniques related to
ensemble singing, WCHSC rehearsals include vocal training,
coaching, eurhythmics, ear training, music reading, and performance
techniques. Their eclectic repertoire includes Renaissance
madrigals, contemporary, folk music, jazz, popular standards,
hymns, and art songs. The group has performed locally at parks,
hotels, concert halls, churches and schools throughout Washington,
Warren, and Saratoga Counties as well as Vermont, with its most
prestigious performance at Carnegie Hall in 2003. The group
has recently added musical theater to their pursuits, with
their first production Guys and Dolls performed in
March 2005.
The Chorale's rehearsals are held throughout the academic year at the Untied
Church on Salem Street in Greenwich, one or two evenings a week and
occasionally on Saturdays. Each year they also hold an
overnight retreat. The concert season runs from October
through June. In 2005, the Chorale will be performing at
Hubbard Hall, The First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, St.
Joseph's Church in Greenwich, and in Vermont.
Director, Douglas Bischoff, began his conducting and
teaching career in Yonkers, NY, directing ensembles with singers
and instrumentalists ranging in age from young children to senior
citizens. In 1986 he moved to Cambridge, NY where he taught
chorus and theatre at Cambridge Central School until 2000. He
is the former director of the Arlington Chorale and Community
Choral Society and is currently organist/choirmaster at the East
Arlington Federated Church. He received his baccalaureate
degree in Music Education from West Chester State College and his
Master of Arts from New York University. His ensembles have
performed at Disney World, in Canada, England, Ireland, Germany,
Austria, Switzerland, and Romania, and in many venues in the New
York metropolitan area.
Spurred by WCHSC members, the Village Theatre
Ensemble was begun to present theatrical productions. Guys
and Dolls was WCHSC's first production as VTE, which is open to all high school students in the
area who wish to participate in theatrical productions. |
