The Soroptimist International of the Adirondacks is
the local affiliate of Soroptimist International of the Americas,
an international volunteer service organization for business and
professional women. Almost 100,000 Soroptimists in more than
120 countries and territories contribute time and financial support
to community-based projects benefiting women and girls. The
organizational mission is to improve the lives of women and girls
in local communities and around the world.
The Adirondack Chapter has fulfilled this mission
through various projects. For the last eight years, the group
held a spring Blossom Festival that raised funds for their Womens
Opportunity Fund and the Violet Richardson Award. In October
2004, the group assembled 80 cosmetic bags with personal items, and
in December, baby-changing needs and clothing for Community
Maternity Services of Warren County. In February, 2005, the groups
project is the Bucket Brigade, which will assemble cleaning items
and products plus a gift certificate for something special for
victims of domestic violence that are ready to leave safe houses
and set up housekeeping again. These will go to the Warren
County Domestic Violence Group.
The Soroptimists meet the first Monday of each month
at the Montcalm Restaurant. Professional women interested in
attending can call Lara Currie at 761-0668 |
