Elements of Art was started by Carol and Peter Jonietz whose lifelong interests in the arts took shape in this business.  Recent arrivals to the area, they first saw the space they now occupy during one of the Artist Open Houses sponsored by many of the artists whose studios are in the building.  During this visit, they talked to numerous artists whose dream was to have a gallery in the building.  The idea just never got off the ground until Elements of Art (EoA) was born.  A labor of love, the plans took shape and slow progress made.  Many who have seen the building over time will have been witness to the transformation.

Elements of Art officially opened to the public on November 27, 2004 as part of the Holiday Artist Open House.  EoA is a unique art shop located on the first floor of the Shirtmakers Building, a former clothing factory (aka McMullen & Levens or Troy Shirt Factory), renown worldwide for quality shirts and dresses. Making use of this historical building, Elements of Art is many things.  As a fine arts gallery, showcasing local and regional artists, EoA is part of the Third Thursday Art Walk in Glens Falls.  EoA also carries a selection of fine, hand-crafted gifts, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, and special occasions.  The fine gift items are almost exclusively handmade and are selected from artisans in the northeast.  Since most are handmade, they are truly one-of-a-kind and are ideal for all gift-giving needs.

Elements of Art's focus on local and regional artists means they are always looking for new talent.  Artists are always welcome to submit works for review for future shows. We prefer to see representative works for evaluation and artists should arrange for a personal meeting at our gallery.  If a meeting cannot be arranged, artists may submit a minimum of 5 images of their work for consideration.

For the artist, new or experienced, Elements of Art carries a selection of artist supplies.  Also available is studio space for rent for personal use, classes, or meetings which may be one-time, periodic, or ongoing.  When EoA was first planned, being a supplier of art materials was only a small part of the mix.  Over time however, it became apparent that there was a need for a local supplier of art materials.  Art supplies include brushes, paints, canvases, paper, and easels for watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting.  Sketching and drawing supplies are also handled. The selection is growing, and if a particular item is not carried, special ordering of supplies is an option.

Art instructors, want to help your students even more?  EoA can put together student kits based on the instructor's preferences for the class.  Students can get all their supplies in one place.  Contact EoA for your class needs to find out how they can help.

Elements of Art's hours change with the seasons, visit www.ElementsofArtNY.com or call for current hours or to arrange an appointment.  Be sure to visit for Third Thursday openings each month.
