Since 1993, the Harness Shop Artisans, nestled in
the small town of Chestertown in the Adirondack Mountains of
northern New York, has specialized in regionally made hand-crafted
items along with a large selection of authors and musicians.
The artists reflect the beauty of the surrounding mountains and
meadows of the Adirondacks from the High peaks to the Tug Hill
Plateau. This beautifully maintained 19th Century building
housed an authentic Harness Shop for many years. It boasts an
open and bright interior which enhances the artistic display of the
many treasures it now holds.
Starting with only 18 local artists, the shop has
grown to represent over 250 regional artists and crafters producing
high quality work. Theres something for everyone and all with an
artistic uniqueness. Some of our most popular artists are
jewelry by The Silver Studio, Ed Levin, garnet of J & J Brown, Tim
Shea, original art work of Bea Bernhard, Evelyn Lucas and Shelly
Valachovic, photography of Carl Heilman II, Jerry Shelton and Mark
Bowie, pottery by Jay Crafts, Fawn Ridge, and glass work by Beth
Melecci, Judy Bernhard, wooden toys by T-Burg Toys, specialty foods
by Adirondack Elixir, rustic furnishings by Frawg and many more.
There is also a very large selection of Adirondack books, either
about or written by folks from the Adirondacks and many are signed.
If you have heard a regional artists music, you are bound to find
it at the Harness Shop.
