The World Awareness Children’s Museum is an interactive
museum that introduces children and adults to the many facets of world
cultures. Located in the center of
downtown Glens Falls, on the third floor of the Godnick Building at
229 Glen Street, WACM is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 am–4:30 pm
and Saturdays 10 am–2 pm.
Opening on October 23 and running through August 31, 2004 is this
year’s exhibit, Shared Visions: A Child’s View of Costa Rica.
Based on the Museum's own collection of original art by
Costa Rican children, this exhibit depicts the customs, daily
lifestyle and environment of Costa Rica, including a steamy rainforest
with monkeys and toucans.
WACM fills up its year with many special events, such as the annual
International Cuisine Dinner and auction Sunday, Nov. 2 at Ft. William
Henry in Lake George, where guests can sample fare from around the
world created by local chefs and have fun bidding on various auction
items. The Cocktail Party and Print sale on Thursday, Dec. 4 at
the Queensbury Hotel offers unique holiday gifts--prints from the
museum’s international collection. The collection was developed
15 years ago by the museum’s founder and director, Dr. Jacquiline
Touba, and includes over 5,000 pieces of original art by children from
more than 55 countries. |
