Louis Mastro does not let a day pass without some
sketching, planning new work or painting on a work-in-progress, enjoying
a conversation with neighbors and prospective collectors or quietly
playing on his classical guitar.
Portraits, figures and nudes are additional areas of his aesthetic
accomplishment, executed with mastery in a variety of mediums. His
oils, pastels and watercolors reflect a sensitivity to detail while at
the same time lyrically capturing the mood of the setting with a deep
understanding of nature and light. His eye and brush elicits soft
shades and tones yet shows us how powerful and miraculous living in the
world can be.
Louis has exhibited his work at the Hudson
River Museum in Yonkers, NY, the Leonard Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, FL,
and in Lagos, Portugal. He has been president of the Mount Vernon
Art Association, a member of the Salmagundi Club of New York City, and
the Hudson River Art Association, Professional League of NY, North Shore
Art Association, the NY Water Color Association of Glens Falls and the
Broward Art Guild in Fort Lauderdale. He has won many awards and
prizes. A major honor was his selection by President Eisenhower as
one of "Fifty American Artists."
Now in his nineties Louis
Mastro continues to pursue his art with strength and dedication in
Florida and Rockport, Massachusetts where he operates his own gallery. |
