Art Work/Photographs/Prints

John David Geery
Pastoral scenes, Adirondack & Vermont landscapes
Tom Ryan Watercolors
I particularly enjoy the quiet serenity of the Adirondacks and try to capture that emotional feeling in my watercolors.  I paint almost exclusively using the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, typically using two of each.  I start many of my paintings by soaking the watercolor paper and utilizing a wet-in-wet technique that results in soft edges that I particularly enjoy.  Once the paper dries, I add dark hard edge strokes for interest and to emphasize the center of interest in the painting. T he result is a painting that is a blend of soft and hard edges.  For the watercolor “Barnyard”, I decided to use a random pattern of hard-edged abstract and hopefully interesting white shapes throughout.  The "whites" are the white paper with no paint applied.  For the painted portions, transparent watercolors of red, blue, and yellow were used.

Handmade Hemlock Bark Baskets
Designed and Woven by Shelley Valachovic

Shelley's baskets are woven from bark that is peeled from freshly cut hemlock trees in the spring, then trimmed, washed and thoroughly dried.  The handles are laced with thinner strips of the same bark.  Those without handles make wonderful bread baskets.

Catherine Charron
Master storyteller Mémerč Catherine Charron brings to life the stories of the past.  Mémerč preserves the legends that her French-Canadian family harvested as lessons, tales and adventure for the young.  Mémerč has tried to recapture her family heritage and the rich Quebecois stories that shaped communities.  In 1999 the New York State Council on the Arts recognized Mémerč Catherine Charron as a master artist, and in 2001 the Board of Directors of Traditional Arts in Upstate New York awarded Catherine the North Country Heritage Award.  In December 2004 LARAC named Catherine Artist of the Month.

Carol Gregson
Carol Gregson's chronicle about life in the Adirondacks is a welcome blend or irony and humor.  nearly six decades and seven children after arriving here from Seattle, Gregson is upbeat--often hilarious--about the special demands of mountain living.  Readers will find much to enjoy and recognize in these stories told with all the authenticity of a person who has been there and still is.

Jewelry

Crystal Eggleston
Raw metals such as nickel, copper, and brass make up the majority of my jewelry portfolio. I enjoy the natural qualities of these materials and the way in which they react to the heat of a torch. Most of my metal pieces incorporate a semi-precious stone of some kind. I feel that the combination of the natural metals and semi-precious stones give an earthy feel and make each piece truly unique. The cuff pictured is made from copper with an onyx stone. The red patina you see in the copper is natural and is created from the heat of the torch.

Paper Crane Earrings are made from origami papers with patterns of traditional kimonos.  Light and bright, they attract attention without the weight of most earrings.  In Japanese culture, paper cranes can be used to make wishes. Today, paper cranes sometimes stand for a wish for peace, making a gift of paper cranes a gift of hope and peace.

Tamarack Studio
Tamarack Jewelry is a collection of gemstones set by silversmith Regina Eldridge, portraying historic styles ranging from early Celtic, through Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco periods.  Construction techniques include hand fabrication, die-struck filigrees, lost-wax casting and free-form jewelry sculpture from precious metal clay.  Many pieces incorporate all of these techniques with unusual gemstone cuts to create unique, one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and brooches.  The shop in Warrensburg, NY ("at the bandstand") offers hundreds of items to choose from in price points from $20 to $1500.

Tracy Thomas
I've been creating unique lampworked glass jewelry from my Hudson Valley studio since 2000.  Lampwork is a process developed centuries ago in Italy for forming molten glass into beads and sculptural shapes.  I make each piece one at a time, using colorful rods of glass melted in a torch flame, shaped, decorated and then fired in a kiln to strengthen the glass.  What appears very delicate is in fact quite durable.  I am working on new ideas for functional glass art.  My earrings and other jewelry feature my glass work and sterling silver.

Pottery

Earth and Fire
Earth and Fire began as a functional pottery business but has been expanded  to include whimsical stuffed moose and folk art pieces.  The pottery is wheel thrown or made from slabs.  All pieces are intended to be fully functional and are lead free, microwavable and dishwasher safe.
Wayne Smith
makes wheel-thrown functional work with particular care taken with form and surface.  The wheel-thrown forms are often manipulated and altered after throwing.  His interest is in evolving the form, developing surface treatments, and exploring the limits of that form’s functionality.

Sassy Suds Soap
Sassy Suds is a mother and daughter soap crafting team from Warren County, NY. It began as a hobby in mom's kitchen and soon the demand for soap grew just from family and friends. All soap is individually hand-poured into the molds, using only quality ingredients, essential oils and butters. There is no chlorine or detergents used any of our products. All soaps are 100% organic and environmentally friendly. All soaps are vegan EXCEPT the goats' milk bars. All soaps are made of all natural products. We wouldn't want to put harsh chemicals on our skin, so we would never use them in any of our soaps. Our soaps are very long lasting bars and lather extremely well, even with hard water. Chip carving is a centuries old form of decorative wood carving in which geometric, floral and free form patterns are drawn on wood and then carved by the removal of small chips within the pattern.  Typically chip carvers use only two small knives to achieve remarkably intricate designs.  Examples of chip carving can be found as part of the folk tradition of almost every country.  Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries still use chip carving to adorn furniture.
