Work by S. Eichel
Bay Street

Painter Stu Eichel presents approximately thirty paintings done during the past year on site in various locations throughout Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga counties. Subjects include the Civil War Monument on Bay Street in Glens Falls, the riverfront area of Whitehall, the Washington Square Diner in Greenwich, and the Old Saratoga Bookstore in Schuylerville.

Work By R Creager O'brien
Reflections on Lake George

Joining Eichel is Renee Creager O'Brien of Hadley who uses a pinhole camera to photograph local scenes.  Pinhole photography is an early form of photography that is lensless and was used as early as the 16th century as an aid in making pictures.  Images produced are hazy and diffused—an effect embraced by 19th Century Pictorialists and again in the 1960s. O'Brien received a BS in art education from Hofstra University, a MA in Communication Arts from the New York Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from New York University.  She is a well-known writer and lecturer on photography who teaches at Empire State and Adirondack Community Colleges.

Work by L. Wilson
Farmer's Market

Painters Laurie Hyde Wilson and Tom Myott are also part of "Local Color".  Wilson is an oil painter with a life long interest in portraiture.  She attended SUNY Potsdam and is employed as a scenic artist by Adirondack Scenic, Inc. of Argyle.

Work by T. Myott
City Hall Shadows

Myott has recently completed a series of paintings based on the immediate downtown Glens Falls area.  Myott is an art teacher in South Glens Falls and has exhibited his work widely in the this area.

Work by W. Smith
Teapot

Rounding out "Local Color" is ceramist Wayne Smith of Saratoga Springs. Smith, who holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, did postgraduate work in painting at Hunter College and postgraduate studies in ceramics at Skidmore College with Regis Brodie and will be exhibiting recently completed vessels exploring balance, rhythm, and proportion as they relate to elements in nature, the human figure and architecture.

Work by K. McGowan
Convolution

Work by K. Casey
Oblivious

LARAC’s second exhibition this Fall in the Lapham Gallery is "Hierophant" by Kathleen McGowan and Katie Casey.  Hierophant refers to an explainer of mysteries; someone who interprets and expounds the meaning of obscure and mysterious matters. McGowan and Casey use ceramics and mixed media, respectively, to explore this concept.  McGowan received a BA from Drew University and a MSED from the College of Saint Rose in collaboration with Skidmore College.  She teaches art at Oliver W. Winch Middle School in South Glens Falls.  Also showing is Katie Casey of Gansevoort who teaches at Lake George High School.  Casey received an art degree from SUNY Potsdam and a MS in Art Education from the College of Saint Rose.

Print by L. Buerkley
Pears and Pallet

Prints by Linda Buerkley will be on display in the foyer of the gallery. Buerkley, of Hudson Falls, holds a BS from SUNY Buffalo and a MA from SUNY Albany and taught art in the Shenendehowa Central School system for 36 years. She is an active volunteer with the Hyde Art Collection.

Be a Part of "Paint Out Month"

In conjunction with "Local Color", LARAC has designated October to be “Paint Out Month.” Local residents are encouraged to paint or sketch the local area during the month of October. A special area wide “Paint Out Day” will be held on Saturday, October 11, beginning at 9:30 am. Local pastel artist Dave Francis as well as members of the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society are among those who be painting and drawing at locations throughout Glens Falls.  Local residents of all ages and all ability levels are encouraged to join in.  The event is free.  A special exhibit of finished works will be held at LARAC on Thursday, November 6 from 7-9 pm, and all who complete work during the “Paint Out” in October are welcome to display their finished pieces.  If you wish to participate in the "Paint Out", please contact our Gallery Director for information, rachael@larac.org

To participate, just set up your art supplies in an outdoor area somewhere in the Warren, Washington or northern Saratoga Counties, and using your artistic vision and skills, depict what you see.  Finishing touches can be added inside, later, but the majority of the work should be done on site. We encourage all ages, levels and abilities.  Work that is completed during PAINT OUT MONTH is eligible to be exhibited at LARAC Thursday, November 6 from 7-9 pm.  There is no fee to participate but all work that is exhibited during the reception must be properly framed.  You may paint anytime during the month, but for those who would like the camaraderie of a larger group, Saturday, October 11 is PAINT OUT DAY.  Local artists, including members of the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society and a pastel group from Saratoga will be working at sites throughout downtown Glens Falls.

LARAC is keeping track of the number of artists who participate during PAINT OUT MONTH; please call Rachael Hunsinger at 798-1144 to register for the event. She will provide details on how to submit your work for the November exhibition.
