Theater Organizations Adirondack Children's Troupe PO Box 2505 Glens Falls, NY 12801 www.adirondackchildrenstroupe.org Adirondack Children's Troupe was founded in 1979 by Kate Blossom to provide theater experience for kids from elementary school through high school. ACT is a not-for-profit corporation run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Three productions are presented per year. The fall production is cast with students in grades 8 through 12, the spring production with students in grades 4 through 7, and the summer production with students who have competed grades 5 through 8. Cast registration and ticket information may be found on the ACT Web Site.

Called “...the best of its kind in the world,” by the New York Times, the Adirondack Museum is a destination for tens of thousands each year. Stories of how people lived, traveled, worked, and played in this six-million acres of wilderness are told in outdoor and indoor exhibit areas located on spacious grounds overlooking Blue Mountain Lake. The Adirondack Museum is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. seven days a week, except September 12,  from Memorial Day Weekend in May through mid October. Admission is charged and group rates are available.

The Georgi Museum and Park Center is located on nine landscaped acres along the Battenkill River.  The museum holds the treasured Renaissance art collection of the Georgis, who donated their home and collection to the Town of Salem.  This lovely setting in the hamlet of Shushan includes extensive perennial gardens and is a popular site for weddings, family gatherings, outdoor concerts, and nature lovers.  It is open weekends from Memorial Day through Columbus Day and other times by appointment.  Call 518-854-3773 for more information.

The Hyde Collection is a historic house and art museum complex that combines the heritage of the Adirondack Region with a distinguished permanent collection consisting of works by European old and modern masters and American artists, important decorative arts and antique furnishings.  In addition, the Museum provides changing exhibitions in four gallery spaces, lectures, concerts, family activities and school programming as well as a Museum Shop.  Admission is free.  Open year-round:  Tues.-Sat. 10 AM – 5 PM; Thur. till 7 PM; Sun. noon – 5PM.  Closed Mondays and national holidays.

Stroll wooded paths along Lake George to the historic teaching studio of Metropolitan coloratura Marcella Sembrich (1858-1935), recitalist, teacher, and benefactor.  Original furnishings, a changing exhibit of costumes worn by the opera singer, a vast array of autographed photos of her colleagues, paintings, and objects d'art will engage the visitor interested in art, music, history, or antiques.  Curator tours available daily.  Summer musical programs include recitals, music lectures a Master Class in Voice, and an opera for children.  Museum open daily:  June 15-Sept. 15, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2-5:30 p.m.

Opening its doors in 1986, The National Museum of Dance is the only museum in the nation dedicated to American professional dance and is an all-inclusive institution, dedicated to diversity and resolute in representing dance forms from a variety of cultural, religious, and class backgrounds of American society.  The museum holds a firm belief that the arts should be accessible to everyone.  A non-profit organization with three major goals:  communicating and dramatizing America's brilliant heritage in dance with a "living museum," increasing our community and school outreach, and restoring a registered National Historic Landmark to appropriate public use.  The National Museum of Dance is the only museum in the nation dedicated to American professional dance.  Dedicated to diversity and resolute in representing dance forms from a variety of cultural, religious, and class backgrounds of American society there are currently three on-going exhibitions and a children’s Backstage play area.  The Museum’s latest project is the School of the Arts offering dance classes to the community in the Swyer Studios.

In its third year of operation, the North Creek Railway Depot Museum, site of Teddy Roosevelt's night ride and succession to the Presidency in 1901, exhibits the history of the Adirondack Railroad, Skiing, Ski Trains, Mining, Logging and of course Theodore Roosevelt.  Admission is free, donations accepted.  Guided group tours can be arranged.  Hours:  May-October, Tues.-Sun. & Holidays from 10 am to 4 pm

Constructed in 1772 as a private residence, for Patrick Smyth, the Old Fort House is one of the oldest frame structures in upstate New York and the focal point of a campus that includes five additional buildings.  The facility also includes the Baldwin Barn Gallery & Gift Shop. Tours by appointment.  Museum Campus is open daily from June 1-September 1 (closed July 4 and Labor Day) and weekends in September and October.  Admission:  Adults $2, members and under 18 free.

During the renovation period of the Museum's new home at 89 Warren Street, Glens Falls, WACM will temporarily move to 174 Glen Street, Glens Falls.  The Museum will continue its International Youth Art Exchange Program, conduct cultural outreach programs in the schools, and hold International Youth Exhibitions at a number of venues off-site.  However, the children's interactive on-site exhibition, is postponed until the completion of WACM's new home renovations.

The Adirondack Community College Department of Music offers a broad range of music courses, ensembles, lessons, and public performances.  Our offerings support the needs of the music majors in our Associate degree program in music as well as the needs of other ACC students and the many community members who utilize ACC for playing opportunities and other lifelong learning experiences.  The ACC music department also presents The Pamela G. Firth Music at Midday Series during the Fall and Spring semesters of each year, which presents guest artists and faculty members in concert.

The critically acclaimed Battenkill Chorale, founded by Janet McGhee in the fall of 1995, is a 70-voice unauditioned chorus from six counties in New York and Vermont presenting exciting performances of a wide and varied repertory of choral music. Based at historic Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, New York, the Chorale offers area singers a unique opportunity to perform choral literature extending from intimate chamber pieces of the Renaissance to larger scale dramatic works for soloists, chorus and orchestra.

Named for “Gio” (piano) and “Ginny” (violin) de Blasiis, who began to give regular recitals in 1932 with George Finckel, (cello), it is one of the oldest, continuously performing, chamber music series in the United States.  Although primarily devoted to the classical repertoire, it nevertheless includes contemporary music in its offerings; allowing artists the liberty to choose the music they would like to perform.  Three concerts are given in the Fall and three  in the Spring.  The cost of a subscription is $60 for the series, $20 for students.  At the door, $15 and $7.

The Lake George Community Band was founded in May of 2003 and currently has approximately 80 musician members.  Our diverse membership includes professional musicians, music educators, some who are just learning to play an instruments and others who haven't played in an organized music group for many years.  No audition is required to become a member and no membership fees are charged.  We rehearse and perform from late March through early December each year and play a diverse program of music.  Our main performance venue is Shepard Park in Lake George, NY.  Rehearsals:  Thursdays from 7-8:45 pm at the Lake George High School music room

Music from Salem brings musicians of international reputation together each summer to prepare and perform music in southern Washington County.  Musicians live and work at the Brown Farm in Salem and perform at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY.  A summer chamber music season includes four concerts as well as free open rehearsals and children's workshops.

Moseskill Marketplace is a co-op that provides an economical outlet for unique products created and sold by local artisans and vendors.  A walk through the Marketplace will reveal a wide range of products:  honey, maple, home baked rolls and cookies, Watkins brand products for baking, finely crafter cutting boards, hand-turned canes, felted handbags, baby afghans, locally blown glass ornaments, beaded jewelry, antiques, book by local authors, hand-painted decorative items, and paintings by local artists.  A small monthly fee is paid to cover rent and utilities by each member and consignments are accepted.  Store hours are Friday and Sunday 12-5 and Saturday 9-5.

The Adirondack Community College Theatre Program has been under the direction of Ruth Liberman since 1982.  During that time, the college has produced such classic plays as "Nicholas Nicklebly"  & "Tartuffe", everyone’s favorites plays such as "You Can’t Take It With You" & "Harvey" to very contemporary plays such as "The Music Lesson" & "The Memory of Water". Now in its 23rd season, the program also houses a Touring Theatre for Children that tours to area elementary schools each autumn for some 3,000 to 5,000 students and teachers. Theatre Courses at ACC are designed to be enriching, practical experiences that complement a Liberal Arts education.  Students of all ages are encouraged to participate in challenging courses that provide individual attention.

The Adirondack Theatre Festival is a professional summer theater founded in 1995 to present new and contemporary theater in the Glens Falls/Lake George region.  The Festival currently takes place in June and July and presents a wide variety of plays, musicals, solo performers, and cabaret to audiences for our community, the Albany capital District, and summer residents.  Besides presenting at least one world premier each summer the Festival has been the first in our region to present award-winning plays such as Art, Three Tall Women, and Wit.

The Woolworth Theater Project has been designed with the specific mission of creating as much activity by as wide a spectrum of performing groups as possible. Its 300 seats have been determined to be the optimal number to generate performance nights, and its stage facilities are suited to most (although not all) of the region's performing entities. The spacious rehearsal area and proposed basement rehearsal/performance space will add to the activity level.
The Design Team of Glens Falls' Joy McCoola & Zilch, P.C. as architects and New York City's Minds Eye Consultants as theater consultants has created a space which will be functional, flexible, and comfortable. Besides the theater, the building will also contain retail, office and rehearsal space, all consistent with the economic development portion of the Project's goals.
You can help make the Woolworth Theater Project a reality. You can contribute any amount, and in a variety of ways: Pledges, Cash Contributions, Securities and Real Estate, Gifts-in-Kind, Estate Bequests, and Matching Gifts. Gifts are tax-deductible within the fullest extent of the law. Gifts can be unrestricted or designated for specific purposes. Pledges may be made for a period of up to four years.

The Lake George Opera has been producing professional opera since 1960s, engaging both established major artists and singers at the beginning of important careers.  Founded at Diamond Point on Lake George, the company now presents its major productions at the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs.  The company boasts the country's second oldest Apprentice Artist Training Program, selecting eight singers each year from a national pool of applicants that numbers over 650.  Since the mid-1980s the company has had an active Education Program which has grown significantly over the past three years.  Opera to Go brings a fully staged opera to elementary school children throughout a seven county upstate area.  In 2002, over 12,000 students were able to experience live opera.  In 2003, the company debuts Opera a la Carte, which will bring workshops, masterclasses, and concerts to middle and high school students.

Our Town Theatre Group (OTTG), located in North Creek, NY, is a not-for-profit community theatre and a member of the American Association of Community Theatres. The Schuylerville Community Theater (SCT) is a volunteer, non-profit organization devoted to promoting the performing arts through educational and charitable activities.  SCT celebrates 25 years of theater performance and production opportunities offered to its active members while bringing quality entertainment to theatergoers of all ages.  Distinguished for having produced musicals and plays each year since 1980, SCT also offers a Children’s Summer Theater Program to boys and girls ages 5 through 18 who wish to experience all aspects of musical theater. SCT presents its productions at the Schuylerville Jr./Sr. High School auditorium.  To date, SCT has awarded over $25,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors who wish to further their education in the fields of performance arts and/or music education.

Youtheatre is a musical theatre workshop located in Lake George, NY for students ranging in age from eleven to eighteen.  We produce three Broadway musicals in a four-week time frame.  The performers participate in all aspects of musical theatre including, vocal, dance, stage direction and management, lighting, sound, scenic design and of course acting. The Upper Hudson Arts and Services Consortium is a not-for-profit organization offering arts and cultural services to the Adirondack region.  In summer 2003, the Consortium will present a series of workshops to be held at Gore Mountain, Tannery Pond Community  Center, and the Upper Hudson River Railroad.  Anyone interest should write for information on these classes and workshops.

The Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society (UHVWS) is among the most active art groups in the region.  Formed in 1989, it currently has 74 members.  Membership is open to anyone interested in water media, which encompasses watercolor, acrylics and gouache.  Annual dues are $20.  Meetings are held the first Monday of the month (except July and August) at the Lapham Gallery in the LARAC building, 7 Lapham Place, Glens Falls, New York at 7:00 pm.  A monthly newsletter keeps members up-to-date on meetings, activities by members, show opportunities, and upcoming museum and gallery shows which may be of interest to members, and an annual bus trip to NYC to view the American Watercolor Show at the Salamagundi Club. The society also has a lending book and video library available to members. Beginning, as well as established painters, are welcome. The group’s purpose is to encourage, enhance, promote and support the talent of its members.
