October’s Artist of the Month, Laura Walsh, has a long relationship
with LARAC, the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society, and was one of
the first artists to rent studio space in the Old Troy Shirt Factory and Studios
in Glens Falls. Laura has been a resident of Hudson Falls for
the past 7 years. In that time she has been developing her landscape
interpretations, the primary focus of her watercolors. Her work
consistently depicts recognizable areas in our Adirondack landscape.
This familiarity, Laura believes, is important for the viewer to
become engaged in her paintings. Beyond painting realistically,
Laura’s work reflects an understanding of the integrity of the medium.
Through this mastery of medium and technique, Laura strives for an
emotive response from the viewer by balancing abstraction and
representation. In addition to her time spent painting in her
studio, she offers watercolor classes and participates in many shows
and exhibitions across the region. She is also currently pursuing her
graduate degree in teaching.
This September and October Laura begins
another session of watercolor classes at her studio. Classes will meet
Wednesdays for 6-week sessions and cost $65. Laura accepts
painters of all abilities and has many repeat students. She is
always challenging herself with new mediums, making her a
well-experienced teacher. Contact Laura for further class information
at 747-8337, or email her at
walshpaint@yahoo.com.
Laura currently has work on display in the Upper Hudson Valley
Watercolor Society exhibit at the Tannery Pond Community Center in
North Creek and at Cool Beans on Quaker Road in Queensbury.
Laura’s paintings will be on display this fall at the Hadley-Luzerne
Public Library beginning September 3rd. In addition, Laura will
have a booth at LARAC’s Annual Fall Festival on November 9th and 10th
at ACC. Don’t miss your chance to get acquainted with this talented
painter! |
