John Gallucci, AWS

Queensbury, NY

1940s John received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University and his Master of Arts degree from New York University.  Upon receiving a Ford Fellowship Grant, John traveled to Italy and became enthralled with the Italian culture, beauty, and people.

1950s Early in his career, John traveled to Mexico where he to capture the colorful events he witnessed and experienced on canvas.  After spending several months in Mexico, John received another Ford Fellowship to study in Italy and Greece. While in Rome, John studied art at L'Accademia di Belli Artes under the tutelage of many fine artists.

1960s Back home in the beautiful Adirondack region, John turned his creative eye toward nature, drawn in particular to the coast of Maine.  Spending summers in Maine and the remaining months in New York, John began painting a variety of nature-inspired watercolors.  One of his most famous paintings, The Loons, came out of this period of his career.

1970s John opened his first gallery, gradually expanding to larger galleries as his collection and audience developed.  Having formed many deep and lasting friendships in Lake Placid, NY, John opened a gallery there as well.  During this time, John also began teaching workshops throughout the Northeast to many eager students.  His fame was beginning to grow outside his local community.

1980s For the 1980 Winter Olympics held in Lake Placid, NY, he designed three posters all distributed internationally.  One of his posters is a print of the original signed by 5 players of the winning 1980 Olympic Hockey team - Mike Eruzione, Jim Craig, Dave Christian, Ken Morrow, and Mark Johnson.

1990s John continued to perfect his artistic skills.  While managing his art galleries, John began to exhibit his work in several National Watercolor shows.  John's reputation as a teacher opened the doors to many more watercolor workshop opportunities along the eastern coast.

2000s Although he is officially retired, John continues to accept commissions for paintings on a limited basis. Contemplating his sixty-plus years as an artist, John fondly recalls his works done on location: the crowded square at St. Peter's in Rome; a bustling farmer's market in Mexico; the morning fog rolling in off the Atlantic in Maine; wildflowers growing aimlessly by a brook near his home in the Adirondacks; the magical, ethereal snow glistening on the mountain peaks in Lake Placid.  All of John's paintings captures the beauty that surrounds each of us. He considers himself blessed to be able to share that beauty with you.
