Watercolor artist Ken Wheeler has been painting the
landscapes and architecture of the Adirondack region since 1991.
Ken's work reflects the intimacies and antiquities of this beautiful
area of the Northeast.
In 2004 Ken was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the New York
State Council on the Arts, distributed through LARAC. This grant
project was to create a series of ten watercolor paintings of local
diners. The object was to show the cultural significance of this
icon of Americana that is being lost to the chains and franchises such
as Denny's, Starbucks and IHOP. The resulting series titled "Blue
Plate Special" was featured in the LARAC Lapham Gallery during the
summer 2005 exhibit season.
Ken likes to paint in series and currently has three that
he is constantly adding works to: "Blue Plate Special", At
Santanoni", and "Wheels of America". Prints from these series are
available in a variety of sizes as well as in note cards. A new web site
is currently being built and should be up this fall.
Ken is a past
president of the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society, an exhibiting
member of the Chaffee Center for the Arts in Rutland VT, an associate
member of the Northeast Watercolor Society, an artist member of LARAC,
the North Country Arts Center, and the Colonie Art League. Ken lives with
his wife and two daughters in Queensbury where he maintains a studio/gallery
