LARAC member and 2002 Individual Artist Grant Recipient,
Jonathan Newell, attended Ithaca College and earned a BA in classical
piano performance. He studied with Phiroze Mehta and performed master
classes with Andre Michel-Schub and Paul Madura Skoda. During his
sophomore year he was chosen as a semi-finalist with the Young Keyboard
Artists' Association Piano Competition.
Following his graduation, Jonathan began teaching piano
and guitar at Adirondack Community College and performs regularly as a
piano soloist, folk guitarist/singer and electric guitarist. He
has written numerous piano pieces and has worked as an accompanist for
Lake George Opera to Go, the Adirondack Repertory Dance Theatre, the New
York State Summer School for the Arts and the Union College Dance
Department. He was also a bassist with Glens Falls Symphony.
He has made numerous recordings for his own True to Life
music label. Jonathan's CD Piano Music Volume I, released in 2003,
is currently for sale in the LARAC Shop. And on Saturday, May 22,
Jonathan will play with the Adirondack Repertory Dance Theatre's Spring
Concert on Saturday, May 22; this event marks his 10th anniversary as a
pianist/composer with the company.
Jonathan also performs up to 100 times a year with The
Jonathan Newell Band, which include performances in the
Clifton Park/Albany area during February. Visit his website below for
